Committee structure

Council

Council meetings are made up of all 39 elected members of the Council. The Council is responsible for deciding the authority’s overall policies and setting the budget each year. Cabinet

The Cabinet is the executive part of the Council. It is made up of the Leader, who is elected by the Full Council, and a cabinet of other elected members. It discusses and makes decisions in line with the Council’s overall policies and budget. The Leaders of the opposition party groups and the Chairs of the Audit and Standards and Scrutiny committees are invited to Cabinet meetings as guests.

Task & Finish Groups

A Task and Finish Group can be established in order to review or scrutinise a specific matter in a time limited manner. The Council, the executive or any of their committees may appoint one or more task groups at any time. A task group shall not be a committee or sub-committee of the Council or the executive and shall not have decision-making powers.
